DeKalb County School Superintendent Crawford Lewis quietly cut his own pay last year because of the budget crisis. This month he accepted a pay raise, while also warning of more, deep, budget cuts.

DeKalb County commissioners, struggling to balance the budget, and on the verge of voting to lay off county employees and raise taxes, said there is a good reason for the $100,000 line item for wallpaper and painting.

The Internal Revenue Service plans to start regulating paid tax preparers, requiring them to register with the government, pass competency tests and adhere to ethical standards.
